We want to be a safe place for you to talk and start your journey. The House has always been central to The Dark Arts Of. When we first started out, as The Dark Arts Of Baking, The House was the cover image. It continues to live on as the cover of that project. The House has always brought a dark yet comforting feel with it. It’s a hauntingly inviting home with many rooms to explore. Each room has its own feel and project tied to it.
You can find The Baker, covered in flour, talking and baking cookies in the kitchen.
The Parlor has a mystical feel where The Witch, and her cards, wait to reveal the things you need to hear.
Join The Magical Collective as they share stories in the living room.
We gather guests in the sitting room as we converse around a microphone recording conversations to help us all heal.
There’s a dusty writing desk in the attic where our stories are written.
A digital studio in the basement has replaced what once was a dark room.
Meetup on the lawn. We will hold space as you talk. Feel Seen Be Heard.
We understand not everyone’s house was a safe place. We hope that ours can be a safe place for you.
Our Hope
It is our hope that our stories can help others open up and talk about how they feel. Ideally that can lead you, or someone you know, down their own path to recovery. I, personally, was heavily inspired to seek help thanks to the band Casey and the lyrics in their songs. I’ve never been as optimistic about the future as I am now.
The world has not been kind to those with mental illness of all types. Programs have been cancelled or had their funding severely cut. People have been locked away in asylums, or prisons, once the asylums were closed. Silence and stigma have marked those of us who struggle and made it difficult for us to express ourselves or find help.
There are glimmers of hope in the last decade or so with new organizations and outreach. The newer generation has started to come out and talk about how they are feeling. The silence is being broken. We find great hope in that, but I still get strange looks wearing my HFTD “It’s ok not to be ok” hoodie. People are still uncomfortable talking about depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and other mental health issues. Mention the word suicide and see how people’s demeanor change in an instant.
The future is uncertain, but the goal is to continue to grow this platform. We would love to be able to bake with you, read cards with you, and teach you what we know. Each batch of cookies can inspire and build confidence while allowing safe and vulnerable conversation. We hope to share our experiences with you, both the bad and the good. We hope that doing this can help you, or someone you know, learn how to speak so that you can carry on.
Learning how to speak gave me the strength to carry on
